Bugatti Veyron? Porsche Carerra GT? Ferrari
599 GTO? Pfft. If you want super-exclusive supercar, check out the CanAm
from Hulme Supercars.
The boutique
automaker, named for New Zealand’s F1 champion Denny
Hulme, will build just 20
CanAms and sell them for a staggering £295,000. That’s $424,800 at today’s
exchange rate. So what’s 400 large buy you?
A machine with performance as wild as its
looks.
The 2,160-pound car features a 7.-liter LS7
Chevrolet engine mounted in the middle of the carbon-fiber chassis. It’s good
for 600 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. The engine is bolted to a
six-speed box with your choice of paddles or a proper stick shift.
Double-wishbone suspension, inboard pushrod-activated shocks, six-piston AP
Racing brakes, yada yada yada. This thing’s loaded with race-ready hardware,
but Hulme says its designed to be easily driven on the street.
What street? Hulme
Supercars says the CanAm will do zero to 100 km/hr in less than 3.5 seconds and
top out north of 200 mph. Route 318 in Nevada is one of the few roads where you’d really be able to open this
thing up.
As for the styling,
Hulme says it was inspired by Formula 1 racing. Looks to us like it also was
inspired by the KTM X-Bow and the Camparo T1.
